Pre-existing Medical ConditionsPre-existing Medical Conditions

Statistically, any pre-existing medical conditions will tend to increase a person's chances of becoming unwell whilst travelling, making it even more important to take out adequate travel insurance to cover medical costs.

For the purpose of insurance, pre-existing medical conditions are defined as any past or current medical condition that has given rise to symptoms or for which any form of treatment or prescribed medication, medical consultation, investigation or follow-up/check-up has been required or received during the 12 months prior to the commencement of the insurance cover; and any cardiovascular or circulatory condition (e.g heart condition, hypertension, blood clots, raised cholesterol, stroke, aneurysm) that has occurred at any time prior to the commencement of the insurance cover.

It is imperative that you declare any such conditions by contacting our Medical Screening Helpline, failure to advise will result in an invalid claim. Our trained operators will ask a few simple questions, advise you as to whether your condition can be covered and if it attracts any additional premium. Our medical screening is free of charge and we list over 200 medical conditions which are waived (Please see below for a full list of waived medical conditions – this means that you can travel on your insurance without having to declare them), meaning that our customers will not have to pay an excess for them.

However if you are in any doubt, please do call our call centre on 0845 250 5206 who will be happy to help. The Medical Screening Helpline is open Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.
