Vaccination certificates
Yellow fever
This is the only infection for which the World Health Organisation now supplies an International Certificate.
These certificates can only be issued and officially 'stamped' by WHO registered centres.
Some countries may ask for a certificate confirming vaccination against other infections.
For example: Saudi Arabia currently asks for confirmation of vaccination against meningococcal infection from those visitors attending Haj pilgrimages.
Certificate exemptions
A certificate saying vaccination is contraindicated for medical reasons may be accepted by immigration authorities. This exemption can be written, for example, on the official WHO yellow fever certificate or on notepaper, but must be officially signed and stamped.
There is always the possibility that a traveller without an up to date, correctly stamped, vaccination certificate will be detained in isolation at the port of arrival or repatriated.
