Ulcer: a break in the skin or mucous membrane.
Ulcerative Colitis: an inflammatory bowel disease that causes ulcers and irritation in the inner lining of the colon and rectum.
Ulcerogenic: ulcer-causing.
Ulcus cruris: foot ulcer.
Ultrasonography: a technique that bounces sound waves off of tissues and structures and uses the pattern of echoes to form an image, called a sonogram.
Umbilicus: navel.
Unilateral: one-sided.
Urachus: a cord of fibrous tissue extending from the bladder to the umbilicus in an embryo.
Uraemia: kidney failure.
Urea: the chief nitrogen part of urine made from the breakdown of protein.
Urethra: the opening on the genitalia where urine comes out.
Urethritis: an inflammation of the urethra, usually an STD.
Urgency: needing to hurry to the toilet.
Urinary: urine-related.
Urogenital: urinary and genital apparatus-related.
Urography: urinary tract X-ray.
Urinary incontinence: loss of bladder control.
URTI: upper respiratory tract infection.
Urticaria: an eruption of itching weals usually of systemic origin, sometimes due to hypersensitivity to foods or drugs.
Uterus: the womb.
Utrophin: a protein very similar to dystrophin. Muscle cells produce a little of this.
Uveitis: eye inflammation.
Uvula: the pendent fleshy lobe in the middle of the posterior border of the soft palate. It's purpose is to sense the amount to saliva in the mouth.
